Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc., today announced
that he would be taking a break for medical reasons
and stepping out of the lime light. Apple released
this letter today:
Apple CEO Steve Jobs today sent the following email to all Apple employees:
Team,
I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.
In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.
I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.
Steve
Steve has had his share of medical issues in the last few years. In 2004 he had surgery to remove his pancreatic cancer. He has remained adamant that he is cancer free and the health issues confronting him now are diet related. Jobs, a well known Vegan, eats a very strict diet and in my opinion may not be getting all the nutrition he needs. Nothing like a good piece of red meat.
As mentioned in the letter, Tim Cook will be taking over the day to day operations until Steve returns to Apple in July. This may allow Apple to focus more as a company for the next several months rather than being looked upon as being successful because of one man. I agree that Steve returned Apple to all its glory but the stage has been set and the players have been chosen. Steve has set up Apple to move into the future without him. There are many bright and talented people at Apple and it will thrive long after Steve decides to retire.
As for Steve Jobs the man, I wish him well. I hope he gets some rest and springs back like the champion we all know him to be. Get Well Steve!
